Ridgefield, CT – November 22, 2013 Power Hour: Making Minutes Count is an informative program that helps Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield members develop academic, behavioral and social skills through homework completion, high-yield learning activities and tutoring.
Every day after-school over 175 club members, first grade through 12th grade, participate in the homework help program. Thanks to a donation from Reliance Merchant Services, the club members will now be able to access educational activities on three iPad Airs. “Being able to incorporate technology in to our homework help program will allow us to provide additional services to our members,” said Kristin Goncalves, program director. “Support for our programs from companies like Reliance Merchant Services helps us to continue to expand our programming for club members and provide them with opportunities that would not otherwise be possible.” The Power Hour program makes homework and other learning activities enjoyable, as well as academically beneficial – “fun with a purpose,” said Ms. Goncalves. With the addition of the iPads to the club’s homework programming, staff members will be able to implement one-on-one and small group tutoring for youth who need additional help in specific areas. “Once Kristin told me about the wonderful educational things the club was doing though Power Hour, donating iPads was a no-brainer,” said Mary Kate Gobleck of Reliance. She was impressed with the club’s “give back” programs in which the members are paired with their less fortunate counterparts in neighboring towns for Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts. The club “is truly grooming future leaders, and I am proud to support such a wonderful facility with amazing staff in our town,” she said. Reliance Merchant Services provides credit card processing and payroll services for businesses, including retail, Internet and nonprofits.
